01 · Overview
Two halves: how it works, then what it does.
The first half is the foundation. Where Claude lives, how to get around the interface, and twelve ideas that explain what's actually happening when you use it. Each one gets a short explanation, a live demo, and a rule you write down.
The second half is five exercises. They get harder on purpose: documents first, then a lot of documents, then data, then turning that into a process, then data coming straight out of a connected system. We prepare all the material, and we leave the mess in, because that's the part you need to practise.
It's built for people who aren't developers and have no plans to become one. There's no code anywhere in it.

03 · What you'll be able to do
Six things you'll take away.
Explain what the model can and can't see, why long conversations get worse, and where your usage actually goes
Turn a 100 page tender into a referenced extraction you could defend in a bid review
Build a working dashboard out of several spreadsheets that don't line up, and check its numbers
Search a year of operational data for patterns, then work out which ones are real
Write an instruction file and set up a scheduled task so the whole thing repeats without you
04 · Programme
Seven blocks, nine and a quarter hours.
Those are content hours, before breaks. It doesn't fit into one day, so we run it over two, or as a single day built from part of it.

Getting around Claude

Where Claude lives
- In a browser, with nothing to install
- The desktop app on Mac or Windows, which is the one that matters because it reaches your files and runs Cowork
- The phone app, good for asking questions, not for doing work
- The Chrome side panel, for working next to a web page
The rule: do real work in the desktop app. Use your phone to ask, not to build.
The interface, piece by piece
New chat, history and search, attachments, the model picker, the artefacts panel, projects, settings and memory, Cowork, and sharing. We go through each one live, and we flag what sharing means for confidential material straight away.

Set up a project named after your team
Write three lines of instructions for it: who you are, what you work on, how you like answers laid out
Attach one of the documents we've given you
Ask a question about it and get an answer
Find that conversation again using search
Nobody moves on until everyone has finished this. The rest of the day depends on it.
06 · Module 2
How Claude actually works
90 minTwelve ideas in ninety minutes. Each gets a plain explanation, a two minute demo, and one rule you write down. If we can't demonstrate something in two minutes we cut it rather than talk about it.
We finish by asking the room which of the twelve solves the problem they came in with.

Realistic material, getting harder as you go.
Documents, then documents at scale, then data, then turning it into a process, then data from a connected system. Open any of them to see how it runs.
08 · Before you start
What you need on the day.
A paid Claude plan
Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. Cowork only runs through the desktop app and isn't available on the free plan. We check this when you book rather than discovering it on the morning.
The desktop app installed
Mac or Windows, on whichever machine you'll actually be using during the sessions.
Nothing to prepare
We provide every document and spreadsheet the exercises use, including the deliberately messy ones. You don't need to bring anything of your own, and we never ask for your company's data.
No coding
None required and none taught. If you can use Excel and email, you're ready.
